PC-to-TV guide

Switch a Windows PC between a monitor and TV—with the right audio

The frustrating part is not changing the picture. It is changing the screen mode, choosing the TV or speakers, and repeating the same sequence every time you move between the desk and couch.

Short answer: Create one Desk profile and one TV profile. Pair the appropriate Windows display action with the matching playback output, test both directions, and keep the profiles in the system tray.

Choose the correct Windows display action

The correct choice depends on how the devices are numbered and connected. Test the standard Win+P options before saving a profile so you know which action produces the desired screen arrangement.

Pair the display with its playback output

For the TV profile, choose the TV or receiver HDMI playback device. For the desk profile, choose speakers, headphones, an interface, or a virtual output such as Voicemeeter. Device names come from Windows, so label your profile by the result you recognize rather than by a technical device number.

A reliable two-profile setup

  1. Connect and power on the monitor, TV, and audio equipment.
  2. Refresh the detected displays and playback outputs.
  3. Save Desk with the desk display action and desk audio output.
  4. Save TV with the TV display action and HDMI or receiver output.
  5. Run TV, confirm picture and sound, then run Desk and confirm the return path.

Display / Audio Switcher provides three editable profiles, so the remaining slot can hold Duplicate, Extend, Headset, or another common combination. Enabled profiles appear in the tray menu.

If the TV is not detected

Confirm that the TV or receiver is powered on and using the correct input. Refresh the devices after Windows recognizes the connection. A saved profile cannot make physically disconnected hardware appear; it applies the selected Windows action and output to devices Windows currently exposes.
